What is Jobs Daughters?Jobs Daughters is an organization created to unite girls who share the common bond of a Masonic heritage. This enables them to learn leadership skills, organizational methods, and the importance of fulfilling individual responsibilities within a group. By planning their own activities, the members have fun doing what they want to do and at the same time create lasting friendships. Back What is the purpose of Jobs Daughters? The purpose of the International Order of Jobs Daughters is to promote love and friendship among young women. It gives its members the foundation on which to build the qualities needed to become leading, organizing, and contributing partners of society. It broadens the horizons of young women by bringing them into contact with people from other cultures within the United States, Brazil, the Phillipines, Canada and Australia. Communication between the Masonic youth groups also allows for personal growth, bringing us friendships with the young men and young ladies of DeMolay and Rainbow. Back What do Jobs Daughters do?Job's Daughters offers something for everyone - activities ranging from athletics and dances to service projects and fun activities, giving each member a chance for participation and enjoyment. Each group, called a Bethel, works to raise their own money through fund raisers varying from sandwich sales to designing and selling T-shirts. The members of Job's Daughters are able to voice their opinions as to how the money should be spent, as well as other business matters that come before the Bethel. There are also state activities which include a week-long camp at the Patton Campus, in Elizabethtown, a week of fun and relaxation sponsored by the Pennsylvania Youth Foundation, Grand Session, the annual business convention of all Jobs Daughters and adults, and our semiannual Grand Bethel Weekends held at Patton Campus. Our order does not stress any specific religious beliefs. It merely encourages belief and trust in God. Back How do I join?To join Jobs Daughters, you must complete a petition and submit it to a local Bethel. The petition will be read at a meeting, after which a few of the Bethels members will visit you and answer your questions about Jobs Daughters. Your initiation will be held shortly after the visit. Back What happens after I petition? An initiation into Jobs Daughters does not involve embarrassing rituals or tests of courage as to the infamous initiations of college and childhood clubs. Instead, it is a reverent and meaningful ceremony in which you are introduced to the life and trials of Job through the recitation of a five part story by Bethel officers. After joining, all members are asked to attend meetings twice each month, excluding July and August, in order to plan activities and fund raisers, read petitions, and to initiate new members. They are also asked to attend various fun events and service projects; however, no member is asked to do things that interfere with family, school, or church events. Back How is Job's Daughters organized? The structure of Jobs Daughters functions on three levels. The Supreme jurisdiction is formed internationally with membership in the United States, Brazil, Canada, Australia, and the Philippines, and new interest is growing throughout the world. The second level is that of the Grand jurisdictions that exist in state, provinces, or territories with large enough memberships to function somewhat independently of the Supreme Guardian Council. The third level is governed by the Grand and/or Supreme Guardian Councils. It is the local Bethel. Pennsylvania is a special place for Jobs Daughters because of the Mary Etta Wright Grand Bethel and Grand Guardian Council. The Mary Etta Wright Grand Bethel was formed under the direction of the Grand Guardian Council to promote the growth of Jobs Daughters in Pennsylvania. Throughout the years the Grand Bethel has grown and begun new traditions such as the semiannual Grand Bethel Weekends that are held in order to gain new members and carry out business. The Grand Bethel selects representatives to all areas of the world that have Jobs Daughters. The representatives write to their respective areas and relate to the Grand Bethel information they have received from their jurisdiction. Back What is the Grand Guardian Council? The Grand Guardian Council of Pennsylvania administers guidelines for eleven Bethels in York, Connellsville, Greensburg, Latrobe, Columbia, Gettysburg, Quarryville, Elizabethtown, Chambersburg, Hershey, and Camp Hill. Back Where does the name come from? The Order takes its name from the Book of Job in the Old Testament of the Bible. The Orders founder, Mrs. Ethel T. Wead Mick, selected this book because of the practicality and importance of its lessons - it teaches that steadfastness and trust in God are the only sure ways to overcome the trials we are called upon to endure. Back What special uniforms do Job's Daughters wear? The regalia of Jobs Daughters is a Grecian robe that is worn by each member during Bethel meetings. It is symbolic of many emblems, ideas, and lessons of our order; however, above all, it symbolizes equality. This prevents the Order from becoming a club signifying social status and enables more people to be a part of our Order and learn from our lessons. Back I have a younger sister.
